Attention Bloggers: Let’s BE The Change. Please Put Your Blog Disclosure Information Above The Fold

by JML on February 7, 2010

I just did.

(But, Franchise King,  the “above the fold” area is where my most valuable real estate is. That’s crazy!)

Is my idea crazy, or is it just the right thing to do?

If we’re going to be transparent, let’s walk the walk. Let’s set an example. A stellar one.  Maybe by doing this, entire industries will start doing it, too. What if banks put their disclosures at the top of their websites, and even on the top of their printed literature? What if airlines did the same thing? Credit card companies? Automobile manufactures and dealers? The list can go on and on. And it should.

So, what do you think? Are you willing to step out of your comfort zone, and welcome your readers and customers to your blogs and sites with “The Disclosure?”

If so, would you be willing to pass this idea around?

Are you ready to be really, really, transparent?

Go ahead. Move your disclosure information above the fold. Then let me know that you did it, by commenting below, and include your blog url so that the blogging community can see it for themselves. You can actually help convince others to do this!

Be The Change.

  • I already do. Here's an example of a sponsored post I've done on my site:

    http://www.chrisbrogan.com/sponsored-post-british-airways-wants-to-equip-you/

You'll note I do it like this:

    * sponsored post in the title
    * sponsored post in the first paragraph
    * sponsored post in the last paragraph
    * add the sponsor relationship to my about page.

I do this so I can be lickity split clean. You can't NOT know that I'm sponsored. :)
  • Chris,
Thank you for stopping by to see what I'm up to. (Of course the reason I started this new blog is because of you, Chris.)

It's so nice to see highly visible people do the right things.

Thank you for the powerful example you just showed my readers. And thank you for your inspiration and support.

By the way, Jason Falls had the courage to ReTweet this. Thanks, Jason!
